Jyoti Saroop serves VGEI in a non-executive capacity, guiding the organisation's work in research and life sciences. He is a founder member and General Manager of The Unati Co-operative Marketing-cum-Processing Society Ltd., Talwara (Punjab), a pioneering rural cooperative enterprise that has become a model for community-led agro-processing and sustainable livelihood generation in the lower Shiwalik hills.

Over more than two decades, he has led rural biotechnology and sustainable development projects as Co-Principal Investigator with India's premier funding agencies. His work includes setting up a Rural Biotechnology Innovation & Application Centre in the Kandi area of Punjab (Department of Biotechnology), a livestock-based farming system for livelihood security under the World Bank–funded ICAR NAIP programme, cultivation and processing of aromatic and medicinal crops, biofuel production from Pongamia pinnata, and natural bioresources management under the World Bank–aided Integrated Watershed Development Project — in partnership with institutions such as PSCST Chandigarh, Punjab Agricultural University and GADVASU.

He contributes widely to India's scientific and entrepreneurial ecosystem as a Member of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Imphal; Member of the Board of Studies in Food Processing at Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University, Bathinda; and member of the selection committees of the Golden Jubilee Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar and the Punjab Agri Business Incubator at Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. He also serves as Vice-Chairman of the Institute Management Committee of Government ITI, Talwara.

Jyoti Saroop holds an M.Sc. in Biotechnology from Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla. He began his career as a Research Associate at the Biotechnology Centre of Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University, Palampur, and has been a resource person for rural development and bioresources management programmes conducted by NABARD and the Punjab Forest Department.
